Hey Liam
Whats your take on the Gill trade? My feelings is, it was a cash dump to get Gill off the books!! The players they got in return are no more value than a bag of pucks as far as I’m concern! What worries me is that Gauthier is notorious for sitting pat at the trade deadline!! Hopefully with Gill off the books that gives them a little wiggle room to go after someone!! I wish and I stress WISH that they go after Rick Nash,so what if they have to give large for the guy ,this team has to change its face and get back to firewagon hockey!!! I believe that Nash would be a good fit and a great natural goal scorer and could help our pathetic shoot out record! Did you see the |Boston game….whata heart breaker; games lost in the shoot out have been the killer this year! For Nash I’d be willing to give up plekanec,Kostsystin and Gomes and a pick late 3rd round!, Its expensive but as I said before; change the face of this team get bigger Canadians and step away from the European flavour and get guys with heart !! Just my opinion. I can’t stress enough that we go after Nash to get some offensive punch! BTW good comment on Brunt!! Back at cha !!

gidday Davey,
couple of things my friend. For one, Nash would not wave his no movement to come to Montreal. they are not even on his radar. If, and this is a big if right now, but if he goes anywhere it will be to a contender. Secondly Montreal does not have the man power to give up in a deal to get him. If there’s another GM as stupid as Bob Gainey was in acquiring Gomez, well, let’s put it this way, Mike Milbury is no longer in the league. Moving him and more importantly his contract will be next to impossible. That’s why Montreal are hoping for the amnesty clause to kick in so they can buy him out and get him off the books at no cost to the cap.
The Gill trade was actually a good one Dave, once you analyze the deal. Gill was a UFA at the conclusion of this season. Montreal were not going to resign him. It’s not about saving money as it is about getting some prospects. Slaney is an unknown, Geoffrion carry’s the name and has come flying out of the gate in Hamilton, we’ll see, he’ll get a shot in Montreal before the seasons end. You never know about draft choices but overall it was a good deal, Gill was not going to play in Montreal next year either by choice or attrition on Montreal’s blue line. You nailed it on Gauthier regardless bud. He’s gotta go..IMO.
